Omnitrex Tech Part 10

Paul could feel his sweat starting to evaporate. If that was happening, it meant his disguise was fuming into air as well. He had very little time to get out of the arteries the Detective was plowing through. He looked desperately for some place of salvation. The buildings in the business district of the Expanse were like forced bubbles with cylindrical bottoms. Various doors and windows of transparent spongiform glistened in the skylight, style shops with a trickle of customers at this hour, none of which seemed too appealing for a fellow that was about to transform into something else.

Through the hole in the casino wall went the Detective, followed by Paul and four officers. The detective flashed her spectacles at the building’s superintendent and the group of six were ushered into a quite backroom.

She is tall, just over six feet, with mouse brown hair swept back into a tight bun. Her piercing green eyes use her full pouting lips to their distracting advantage. She would be beautiful if she wasn’t so severe. The robes and spectacles of her office do not detract from this.

Paul was running full speed now, a, something he hadn't done since he was a younger man, since the Games during school, and he was pleased with himself how well he was doing, nearly catching up with the boy. His trex was primed, ready for vid capture.

And Paul went about his way, avoiding eddies, shuffling just so to keep in the main flow and was soon rewarded with a burst into the openness of the Public Expanse.

Air. Light. Space. It didn’t matter that it was filled with half a million souls all trying to get out of it as soon as they entered. Walking the Expanse was the sanest part of Paul’s day-to-day ritual.

Paul heaved a sigh as he stepped next to the apartment’s doorway. “You can do this” he breathed out loud. “Easy stuff just open the door and go.” He felt the weight of the trex and realized that his hands didn’t want to touch it to the door pad.

It’s the dreams that get him the most. Dreams of ex lovers , dreams of his parents before their retirement. Dreams of things that don’t involve the trex. Most of all, though, is the shear amounts of space involved. He is standing and his feet are bare and strangely enough, so is the rest of him.

Paul switched his trex to the power-down countdown cycle, plugged the trex into it’s receptacle in the wall and stared around at his lovely pad, his eyes always coming back to the lovely little curved appliance was a moment ago in his hands.

Paul called up Daemon Joe, his banker.

"Joe here, how can i help you paul?" Joe's image was an avatar of an electric star in a pinstripe suit and silk tie. It bobbed around the trex's screen like an animate bowl of gelatin. Pulsating music was in the background. The interface simply screamed bountiful credits.

"Joe, my food supply has gone to dust. What's the story?"

"Seems here, Paul, that you aren't budgeting too well. My advice: don't live beyond your means."

Paul dialed lasagna on his omnitrex and aimed it at his plate. the beam lined the plate back and forth in it's odd fashion, 'jetting condensed matter in waves upon waves, layers upon layers on the dinnerware, itself having just been trexed out just five minutes ago. A real nice earthenware piece, too. Genuine licensed Frankoma reproduction. Infrared from the trex was heating up the lower layers of noodles and sauce even as it was developing more noodly goodness. Gawd, did it smell good and wasn't Paul's mouth watering when>ding!<
