The Truthsayer's Apprentice

Paul B. Hartzog's picture

I recently read the Tor book "The Truthsayer's Apprentice" by fellow Oort-Cloud member Deborah Teramis Christian, and it was great (and I'm very picky).

Things in particular that I like:

  • Much of the magic has an ecological focus. I would love to read more fantasy magic systems like this.
  • The main character, Dalin, struggles with coming to terms with his developing powers, and totally misunderstands their nature until late in the book at a crucial event.
  • The world has a history which is revealed as the story progresses.
  • Dalin finally comes into his own through an act of compassion made possible by the final understanding of himself and his powers.

All in all, a fine tale: : definitely a recommended read.

This sounds like a really good read. I've got to get a copy for the 'To be read' shelf soon.
